1/72 Space Shuttle Launch Tower

Hello All!
I would like to have a 1/72 launch tower built to accomodate the orbiter/booster I have in 1/72. I have never seen a kit of this big beast (only the 1/144 one I know of). Is there anyone out there who knows of a kit of this? Or a prebuilt one for that matter? I just need it to be AWESOME! so I knew you all would be the ones to ask. Any thoughts? Thanks! :D

Sorry but i don't know of any myself.
That be a mighty impressive display though!

Launch Complex models had it listed but it's been very dormant around there for more than a year now.

Thanks for the input. I found that website myself and have sent emails, but to no avail. Nobody home, as you noted. Thanks though!

I think most likely would need four things at least to start from. The 1/144th kit to use as a guide, one of them launch platform models, a call or three to the publicity dept. at NASA and a no screwing about bulk order to Plastruct and/or Evergreen :D

Seriously though, from what i've heard a well worded and polite enquiry to the rocket mob can sometimes yield good results info wise. No harm in asking.

I'd like to see summat like that done meself, certainly be an eye catcher!

starwarsdoc,

If you decide to build one yourself here are some scans of NASA postcards and a couple pics I took on my vacation to sunny Florida to start your reference collection even have a night shot showing the lights. I will look around to see if I have others that might help

For what it's worth and if it will help some merry maniac out, here's some ref pics I have laying about. The pics are reduced size with the link to the full res below them. Be warned, the full size ones are about 2600x1800 resolution give or take a few pixels.

Can't remember where they came from but i've had 'em for a few years if i recall correctly.
Also for what it's worth, I would estimate summat like this would probaly need a base about 36" x 48" or thereabouts and will most likely end up about 48" tall or a bit more at the highest point.

Or a fair bit more if you did the full launch pad from ground level...

Yep, that would be rather impressive and keep someone outta mischief for half a year at least.
:D

Check this out fellas... I was at Universal in Florida in August 2005 and took this photo...

What is awesome about that is that it is only about a 20 inch model hanging from a rig right in front of the camera's position! LOLOL The building and people are real... everything from the platform up is the model.

Love the illusions! :D

Are there still any of the Revell ( I think ) kits around with the launch gantry and shuttle?

Re: 1/72 Space Shuttle Launch Tower

The original 1/144th shuttle launch tower kit was Monogram, which is now part of the Borg of Revellogram or Monorevell or whichever. It is rare now. The tower was underscale by quite a bit, though the RSS was fairly good, if simplified.

Scale comparison of kit LUT and my true scale tower

Launch Complex Models is probably in permenant hybernation. I know the guy who runs it and he's far to busy now to spend any time on it. I did get a 1/144th LUT kit from them when it was for sale.
