Falling back on the kind of modelmaking i really, truly love to do but rarely get the chance. Ships from the age of fighting sail.
And in that spirit, possibly the best show of dedication and attention to detail is this:
HMS Victory, 1/48th Scale, scratchbuilt and 10 years in the making.

Japanese model shipwright Kazunobu Shirai

http://www.geocities.jp/theropenews/victory-page.htm

One of, if not the best i've ever laid eyes on and damn accurate too.

Thanks for posting that. Mind boggling really. Had a Heller Victory once, the big one, forgot the scale, and I didn't have the patience then to finish that

Found this a while ago. Thought it was absolutely brilliant. Not sure who made it, but my hat is off to him/her.

Fantastic work.

Cheers,
Chris.

Now that is clever, i like the way of imparting of the sense of scale but only when you look close.

Nice piece whoever made that!

Default Italo Gismondi's model of Ancient Rome

When I was a nipper, someone gave me a book on Ancient Rome. The front and back cover especially (aswell as various pics within it) had this intense model of the city, it looked real to me and I always loved it.

I have since found out it was built by Italo Gismondi and is housed in the Museo della CiviltÓ Romana.
I've not really found a web page dedicated to it but here are a few sections.
It has been used in several productions over the years, most famously as the aerial shot in Gladiator. Enjoy

This guy is amazing. This GEMINI Freighter is hand built and the pictures are
catalogued start to finish on flickr.

Hope he doesn't mind me posting them.
He goes by the name of "toromodel" and he's from Spain.
Has anyone heard of him......................??

Fantastic stuff and I think you'll agree, he deserves a nod.

Cheers,
Chris.
