Belknap Update 14AUG20
The major hull components have been aligned and joined together: secondary, dorsal and lower primary half. A quick cabin and photon lighting test was done as I wrapped up this week's progress: ![]() ![]() The warp nacelles were rigged for lighting and assembled: ![]() New bridge and B/C deck was installed and lit: ![]() The resin pylons were reskinned in styrene and shaped to a more airfoil cross section: ![]() ![]()

Belknap Update 2SEPT20:
Backlit slide transparencies have been produced as per usual on 35mm film for the Rec Room, VIP Suite and impulse grills. ![]() The traditional Tycho black granite bases were resupplied at the shop. The brass collar was dropped in the 3/8" hole and felt feet added to the bottom: ![]() Mr Vagabond Decals, Mike Hazlewood was kind enough to provide his expert aerospace CAD skills to the task of recreating a new and improved (more accurate too) navigation deflector and lighting reflector. I am currently having these printed by Shapeways in their frosted smooth plastic. ![]() ![]() Some spotlights were added for the dorsal as well as the pylon self-illumination. There was not much room in the primary to install a proper brass tube and LED so a simple hole was drilled near the dorsal on either side and a 0805 SMD was dropped into it with a dab of CA and clear resin. ![]() ![]() The pylon spots were achieved by drilling an angled hole and inserting a short brass tube to focus the 2mm tower LED. The tube will be filed flush to the hull. ![]() ![]()

The only criticism from me is the 'up the bump' support rod. I'm not sure where Else to mount one on this hull. I will be starting a 1/1000 Belknap soon and I want to do something different for the support rod. Hmmmm......

If you’re referring to the main support tube, it’s on the center-of-gravity point. Since this is being lit, the hollow tube diameter is dictated by the power connector that passes through it. Certainly, I could have used a smaller diameter rod if this was not planned for lighting. I’m sure your 1000 can get by with thinner, solid rod.

I understand, there are not many options.
