Putting some serious spit and polish on that one. Makes my one look more than a bit rough...which ain't that difficult.

Top stuff so far!

There were actually two styles of helmet used for Apollo. The first is a one piece bubble type, a basic pressure helmet worn during launch and when the cabin was depressed.

The EVA helmet had two visors. The first is the pressure visor, and was clear.

There was a second visor, that could be lowered over the clear one. This was a shade visor, and was plated with a translucent gold coating. Yes, actual gold. This is why most photos show only a reflection of the surroundings.
Actually, there was but one helmet. The plastic pressure helmet is the real deal... one per astronaut. On the moon they had a shell that included the additional visors that simply dropped, far from air tight, over the bubble.

For a rare and interesting look at the assembly:

go to youtube and search Burke Apollo Spacesuit

Sadly, on this model, the helmet is terribly far from accurate.

Thanks for that vid Ryder! That was very informative. Of all the stuff I've seen and read about Apollo, and I've seen a lot, nothing was ever that clear about the helmets. I've always thought there were two complete helmets.

I bought and assembled this kit recently.
It came with glue and paints included but I was extremely disapointed to find that the paints are water-based.

Is this normal these days?

Very nice looking figure. I've been meaning to grab that kit but always seem to get side tracked with other subjects. You are doing great and so very close. Thanks for sharing
