Default UNCF Murasame 707

Been a bit since my last sci fi build. I don't have a build blog for this one, as it was a pretty quick kit to build even if I did stall over the last month or so. A little hiccup I stumbled across was the naming and the colors.

I didn't go for the exact colors asked for in the ins but went for 'close enough,' which is Spanish for not close enough... When I got back to the build and pulled out the ins and decals, the art has the blue as a lot deeper in color and mine is a little too light. Oops..

Now I know, I could just go with Yunagi and say fudge it, my build, my ship. But I want the Yunagi to look right, and after a bit of searching I came across a suitable replacement. The decals for the heavy cruiser Murasame from the Kirishima/Kongo boxing.

So, this is now a tribute to the original Murasame 707 that was lost with all hands at the First Battle of Pluto. I'm sure somewhere in the first battle in 2202 against the Gatlantis she can be seen in the background, kicking arse and not giving a fig about taking names!

And some fleet shots!

Looks great Thom! Subtle weathering is the way to go. Whats that blue ship in front of the Andromeda? Ive never seen it before. Is it a Bandai kit?

She is the UNCF Interceptor, and is based on the patrol cruiser model, somewhat modified.

The bridge tower and guns are kit-bashed from Gundam model parts, the lower scoop has been extended a little with styrene, and the engine is a 1/48 burner can from an SR-71, with an engine part from a Batmobile in there as well as a pen tip... Believe it or not, the SR-71 engine part ft perfectly with the diameter of the hull.

I hope you don't mind Photobucket, but that's where her build pics are as well as some from her cleaner days. By now, she is due for a good refit.

Damm that's some great kit bashing then. Is the base kit still around?

I bought that one from HLJ years ago. Last time I saw it there it was on back order, so probably not. Best bet is ebay, though they are in the $35 range.
