I did a little bit more on the window last night.

The inner frame area has been made smaller.

The main brase for the window on the inside has been made more square.

The inner cockpit cavity walls have been made thinner to be more realistic.

I have tried to take two pictures two show what I am talking about.

My wife and friend have suggested that I build this just like a studio model.

However, I have shown my wife both cockpits and she likes the one that resembles the full size cockpit not the SS one. I think the same. My friend is in TX so I can not show him.

I am wondering what you think. All of you have seen both versions in other builds on this board. What one should I use?

I think that if ILM would of had the time and resources back then and not rush for filming purposes that the originl ships may have been a lot closer to the full size version. The other side of me says that it is not a replica unless the original version is used.

Please give me your input.

if your on the fence then i would say your not a purist, and a stylized version looks better IMO

this is the reason i didnt put the tubes on either side of the fuse under the cockpit on mine, people say they are brass but to me it seems that they would actually be copper bullet jacks for the electrical hookup, they are on the rear panel as well - if they didnt need to hook up electronics i dont think they would have been there

Nice work on the canopy.

As for the cockpit i think it really depends on what you are going for unless your purist i say use the more detail cockpit from what i've seen most modeler do. If iam not mistaken ILM did build a 5ft X-Wing for Return of the jedi which was never used that had a more detail cockpit like the full size version.

I say go for the one that looks best to you. Don't worry about it being an exact match unless that's the primary goal.

Currently the kit is in clean up mode. I will try to do a little bit each night.
For the moment I will try to replicate the SS model as best I can for the version that I am doing. (Any quesses?)

The pannel lines have been made more defined. Some needed to be fixed and some had to be made by hand. Most of the 'patch' work was removed and new plastruct bits put on.

The to do list for this piece is...
Make the cockpit window interior more defined, cleaner, sharper.
A little cleanup on a few pannel lines as they are not as good as I would like.
Cut out the plate area behind the R2 unit to allow access for lighting.

Once that is completed, The bottom is next.
A closer look to the reference photos shows a lot of redo work on the pannel lines and 'patches' here as well.

Our camera is broke so the included pictures are from my web cam. Sorry for the bad quality.
Hi there .I am new to this forum. You are right at taking the project slowly,as this will present better results .Slow and steady wins the race ,so to speak.I recently built a 2x studio scale xwing totally from scratch and it took 948 hours from drawing to finnished product.Pics. show that you appear to be off to a good start and look forward to more progress reports .Good luck and happy building.
