Default Academy Indianapolis

Anyone out there done the new Academy USS Indianapolis?

Thinking about trying a warship for a change of pace and the story around the ship's history has always intrigued me.

Whenever I hear the ship name in connection w/it's history, I think about the story that Quint told in the movie Jaws. The way he tells that story still sends shivers down my spine, more than 35 years later!

I agree. except Quint makes one small error. The events occurred on July 30 and at the end he says, "That's how it happened, June 30th, 1945"

I picked one up a while back. It's definitely a nice kit at a great price.

Also the one to get. Superior to the Trumpeter kit in just about every way. Pontos makes a pretty crazy detail set for the Academy kit too.

I wonder how tough it would be to build the Portland from it.

Well, tough actually. Quite a number of differences. However......

https://www.shapeways.com/product/QW...ionId=58972688

All that will get you a pretty damn accurate '42 Portland using the Academy kit as a base. You are pretty much on yer own for PE tho.

And yes I know Trumpeter makes a '44 Portland kit. However, the Trumpy kit is pretty much a turd in comparison. So I recommend that only to my worst enemies.
