I really like the Ranger class look. Any more shots of it from various angles?

Nope. This was a one-off for the Trekyards episode in which they mention the Shangri-La variant. I do like this design over the original and if I were to build another one - probably in 350 - it would be this variant.

Why is there another Sentinel?
And so close to the Light Cruiser's number, that means she had a short life?
Please don't tell us Jack Lord rolled his ship!
Say it ain't so, Admiral!

Originally, my TOS 350 project began as a direct predecessor to the Shangri-La class. I picked the name Sentinel as the lead ship in that class but as that project evolved into a smaller light cruiser I decided to not worry about making them related. I also did not amend the Shangri-La listing either. There is almost 20 years separating the two but it does raise some interesting questions that yes indeed - Sentinel (2550) - met an unfortunate loss. Or, she was due to be decommissioned and the illustrious name awarded to her larger successor.

Legends are born of this stuff.

Ha!!

The Ranger variant was created as a way for me to explore some alternative creative choices as I was building the Shang. As she was being designed as she was being built, there were lots of decisions that could have taken her in all sorts of directions but ultimately you choose a path to follow. One of the early after-thoughts was a version with a full primary hull instead of the hammerhead cut-out. The opened and sectioned primary looked unfinished to me and a sought to blend this cut-out more into the hull. (I eventually resolved this on Wasp.) Since I don't like to make it *that* easy, I knew this area couldn't be just the continuation of the primary but rather a newly designed "winglet" or web that fills that gap. My reasoning for this structure beyond the aesthetic nature would be for better structural stability, overall shield coverage and just plain aerodynamics. Additionally, increased storage space. Maybe more SCIENCE.

During the restoration of broken image links to my RI build threads from the demise of Photobucket, I've come across a few newish art comps of Shang:
