OMFG .. you got to be kidding me....

I know we shouldn't treat people with disabillities any different, and that in theory they should be able to take on any task as good as a person without any disabilitties.. (if such a person exists ).

But using a BLIND judge ... hmmmmmm .. bummer

Wow, nice X-15! I do hope that it makes an appearance at the Nats.

Now that the standard has been set, all of us can use magik markers to color our "kit assembly results" as one eXpert would call them.

I must make it to Wonderfest someday. Looks like fun.

OKAY-

I gotta ask- from the attendees- what do you think the judges found Goldworthy in the SurpriseErprise??? I'd hate to think that I might voice my critical analysis and then it turn out to be the work of someone who thought me a friend so instead I'll ask it as phrased above? What were it's "selling points"?

Usually I'm not fond of giving critique to other models, because I tend to think that modelers build to the best of the abilities, and we're all building at different levels of expertise.

However I'll try to give this some thought, and hopefully express my critisim in a constructive way, that the modeler (if he/she is a member here) can use to take into account, or ignore ...

At the same time, I'll try so momentarilly forget everything about the other top-notch Enterprise, so the critisism won't be in comparison to a true masterpiece, but the the kit itself.

The Model
- The drooping nacelle is a killer. If it has occured due to transport, you have to remember, that the first rule of attending modelingcompetitions is, "to always bring the toolbox for small repairs" ... if the nacelle had been fixed, it would have been a very nice improvement.

- The model is very flat. To me (the pictures might be misleading) the model seems very flat and somewhat boring. The paintjob isn't very interesting. The blue and red colors on the other hand are "Über-glossy" but with no hightlights og shadows, which leads to more flat 2d-ish areas. Furthermore in respect to the size of the model, I think the overall paintjob and masking could have been done better, even if the modeler behind it is a newborn "Newborn H.R. Giger" with an airbrush.

The base
- Hmmmm, well it's ........................... it's ................... well it's not my cup of tea. It's wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy to much ... Unless a base is a diorama (this is not) the base should never remove focus from the actual model. This base does this, and unfortuanately not because it's a beautiful base, but IMHO because it has a tremendous amount of bling-bling.

So why did it win. IMHO propably and regretablely because of the bling-bling factor. The grandness of the base, the amount of lights (and sounds perhaps ????) is always a showstopper.... but it does not make a mediocre model look any better.

You guys should have done a "Usual Suspects" group photo like we do in the Real Space world. Then I'd have an idea who's yelling at me in posts.

Or would such a pic violate someone's probation or alert the authorities to being out of state? <---note the emotions before shooting....

When I first saw that big E across the room I was really impressed. It's what I call a 50-50 model, 50 feet or 50 miles an hour and it looks really good.

I applaud the guys electronic skills, no way I could ever do that, period. But if we are judging on electronics, there were more accurate lighting effects in smaller models.

That X-15 would have gotten my vote for gold along with Jason Eaton's SF3D piece, both were super nice.

The Refit totally deserved the gold, awesome paint, base and electronics. It was a very tasteful and professional model.

I figured that since my Falcon wasn't finished and I had a sign waving them off I wouldn't even place. I was told by one of the judges that because my Falcon didn't have details inside the engine area where the white Styrene sheet glows, I lost out. Uh hello! You can't compare this piece to a Fine Molds styrene kit! THERE IS NO detail inside the engine area!

Trust me, "Fuglyprize" was NOT award-worthy.
Sorry.

The display was mind-blowingly LOUD and I do mean LOUD.
It had a ST soundtrack (from ALL ST movies and series) playing in a loop.
You could hear it from across the room.
Hard to concentrate on the real models.
Wont even go into the bright lights and scrawling sign board listing the "artists" web site.

The models lighting was impressive in its sheer amount,...but COMPLETELY inaccurate as to its type and placement.

My gripe,.. SIZE!
That display was over my 5'11" head.
"I" was given 9 kinds of Hell when I brought my "Phoenix" to compete 2 years ago. Its only 46" long.

The "artist" should have spent as much time and effort on the ship itself as he did the "display".

Lots of hard work,..certainly.
Gold Winner,...CERTAINLY NOT!
NOT compared to other entries out there.

I too hate to bash another's work. But this is a judging FAIL!

Who exactly built the Fuglyprise? Is he a member here? Anyone know? Methiks he aint feelin the love if he is. HE didn't award it a gold, afterall. He just entered it. Can't blame him for retardation, he did his best and hit the bullseye. In fact, I give him kudos for understanding how to win at WF. He deserves gold for figuring it out. Ugly ship, though.

I've got some pvc pipe and some primer. I think I'll bang out a gold winning Seaview this weekend.... I also have a pie plate and an Eagle, I think I'll bang out a gold diorama while I'm at it.

Leave logic at the door and grab a beer boys. If you dwell on WF judging you'll pop an aneurysm. Rhyme and reason are NOT part of the equation. If you're looking for modeling validation, head to IPMS Nationals. If you want the best time you'll ever have with people who understand what you're talking about, come to the GriffSuite at WF and enjoy yourself.

Where's the love? Oh right, it's in Mech's pants. My bad.
