Default OOB Review: Monkey Works 1/24 A-Wing

I just got my kit yesterday. So naturally, I've youtubed a review.
Anyone still sitting on the fence, I hope this helps knock you off and into a purchase. It's a fine piece of work!

I think I mention in the vid that this shipped from England. A man of his word, I wanna give Raytheon BIG thanks!

And thanks to Model Nutz, Dakota in the Sky(?), Alfred Wong and any other unsung heroes for their contributions. 'Great success is born of many fathers' -or something like that.

Enjoy!

OK, nice review...thanks Modelman.

After watching that I have a few comments to add.....

1) The canopy.... I vac-formed a double canopy so there would be an opportunity to "try it again" if the modeler makes a boo-boo.
Also, the canopy "block" is for trimming the clear part....just press it in to the vac-formed part and trim to the edge for an excellent fit.

2) The canopy frame... I typically leave some flash on this part so it has a bit more strength during shipping.

3) The Guns..... I learned my lesson here guys...all future guns will include aluminum tubing for strength and rigidity....no more need to scratch copies...I promise

4) The wings.... that's a tough one...I'll just have to package the kit a bit better.

Again, thanks for posting this review Modelman...very fair and un-biased.

Also to remember is that this kit traveled some 12-15 thousand miles to get to me over a few months of time. So in terms of the fins and that tiny crack in the hull, I am happy to chalk that up to happenstance and this particular kit and not to the production. Resin guns are resin guns however. They never seem to work w/o brass or aluminum.

And again, I am psyched to have this! I was never a fan of this design until I saw Ian's WiP here at RI.

I'll rewatch and annotate the video for more clarity if it is lacking in parts.

Odd thing about the wings. I have both the 1/72 scale RB26 and this 1/24 A-Wing and the same wing is warped on both. I see the replacement head I puttied up looks good as well.

both mine were bent also, a couple to a high degree, i put a pot of water on the stove and get it just below boiling and dip them in for a few seconds and they get floppy like a bunny ear (swash them slowly to and fro and you will notice right when they get soft), just pop them out and hold a card or styrene against them to hold them straight and run them under cold water - straight as an arrow

I just slapped them on. They looked backwards as I was filming but it was too late at that point.

...Perhaps I should have said the instructions were 'a bit rickity.'
No offense, of course Ian!!!

Great review!

I think I bought one of the ascestors of this kit some three or four years ago from Dakota in the Sky. Price sounds similar to me.

Of course its in storage and probably impossible to locate at this point.

The kit looks super!!
