Default Re: 1/350 USS North Carolina - a happy mistake

Looks good there Cat!!
Those catapults look really close to the Lion Roar ones!!
I know I went almost blind/crazy folding them up for mine
Now I can see the Eduard stern crane is better designed than the LR one
LR has you putting the rear support pole straight into the deck!! with no bottom plate to mount on
I knew it was wrong but I never could find a good pic of the said crane to make the corrections...Now I'll just scratch one based on yours
Another thing I like is the armored porthole covers are etched in
The LR ones are separate little tiny pieces to mount on the kit piece
Shit now I have to add that little deck house on mine also!!
Keep it going!!
I be back on mine here soon....I have a customer build to get done

Your Citadel's ready to ship to you... so before I do I'll measure the deck house so you can duplicate it. It won't be bad - just a block, two hatches, and some railing on top.

I'll also take closeup pics of the a/c crane's base - maybe that'll help.

One thing I noticed about the LR stuff is that they seem to have just designed their PE to improve on the kit pieces, where Eduard thought outside the box.

I hate Eduard's railings.... what are the LionRoar like?

Cat and Damien- you're doing the ship building community here a service by calling out the differences/advantages/disadvanatges between the AM PE sets you've both chosen. It's not often you get to see a clear, simultaneous comparison. So thank you for that alone!

Now Cat- this is most certainly shaping up (ship shape?) very well indeed! Your attention to details and accuracy is all too apparent and I'm enjoying how you approach the remedies as you need them.

Keep it up cause I'm jonesing for more eye-candy!

LOL!!!

I do have to make one disparaging remark - as far as kits in general go, this thing is *NOT* worth its retail price.

However, when compared to resin kits (which I've never seen in person) the price isn't all that bad.

IIRC while Trumpeter had done some ships before it, this was among the first in what has become the 'torrent' of new Trumpeter offerings. Yes, in many ways it doesn't quite measure up but then it is at least 1/350th (not "box scale") and you can find much better deals than the MSRP. I was recently offering them on Ebay for 65.00 for instance.

Those LR rails officially blow the Eduard away.

Big time.

BTW, I love those hose reels - they kick Eduard butt too
