Default Viper Mk VIII

This is my interpretation of the Mk VIII, using the Moebius Mk VII as a basis. And considering the loss of the Colonies and that all they would have would be the items at hand, that's also where the surviving Colonials would start too.

I started with some simple reconfiguring of the model. I left Part 4 off entirely and moved Part 3 forward. Then I turned Parts 5 and 6 around, finding thjat I liked the smaller profile and the way the rear now dips down rather then swoops up.

Turning 5 and 6 around also opened up some intakes and opening what is now the front of Part 3 created the third. I also wanted shave the wings down, so I cut them back to just even with the cockpit, which opened up intakes on the bottom, which might turn into missile bays as I go along. We'll see...

As for the engines, I'm using the cans from the Mk II, as they would be more reliable and tend to be less maintenance intensive when compared to the high-tech engines of the VII.

This is how she look so far.

And with the engines just test fit.

Thank you! I actually was not going to use them, as they are the Mk II's and recognizable as that. But then I figure, this fighter is being built after the fall of the Colonies, when the high tech engines of the Mk VII would be too maintenance intensive and require too much care to keep running on the long term.
So, the engines of the Mk II would be updated and have their thrust increased, perhaps with what will be termed as a 'Turbo Boost...' It's such an iconic phrase, I wish they had worked it into the new series.
But anyway, I like how they look tucked in there, as they ended up fitting in real good!
And at the front end, inside the inlets, I'll be using the original parts from the Revel Mk I, so I'll be using at least some parts from all three Vipers.

Good idea! And you mean you use that square inlet for this model?

Some progress, if a little slow...

I'm putting in a Paragrafix cockpit, which is a must if you're going to build this kit.

I've also begun building the wing 'inlets,' filling the gap left from the lower fuselage being cut back.

And I'm using the intakes from the Mark I Classic Viper, tucking them into the fuselage. The third one is being trimmed to fit above these two in the upper nacelle.

I'm also filling the gaping hole in the vertical tail, since I removed the gun and am filling in the trenches along the sides of the body.

More pics coming... eventually...
