Default Legend of the Galactic Heroes Scratchbuild

Howdy folks.
Been working on my first scratchbuild, an Alliance Fleet Transport in 1/5000 scale. It's pretty much a flying brick so I figured it would be a good subject for a first try. It'll be 1/5000 scale to go with all my other 1/5000 LotGH kits made by Alba Create.

For those of you that don't know what Legend of the Galactic Heroes is I give you a Wiki link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legend_...alactic_Heroes

It's a damn good watch and I can highly recommend it to anyone who likes a first rate space opera, never mind anime. You can download it at animesuki.com.

Anywho, on to the pics.

I'm basing it off of the 1/12000 model from Wright Staff's 'Fleet File vol.1', the green little guy being the 1/12000 model.

Gives an idea of the difference in width.

How'd that pop can get in there???

http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/a..._supply_06.jpg
Oh so humble beginning....

I have no idea when I'll finish; I'm far more concerned with doing a good job then pumping it out fast plus I have to move by the end of January and I start school on the 11th. But I'll keep plugging along until I finish.

Oh and thanks to Blap for taking the pics and letting me use his shop.

Holy smokes I can't believe itís been a whole year since the first update. College does keep me rather busy. But I had a 2 week break during Christmas and instead of foolishly spending it with family and friends; I was wisely locked away in a friendís shop madly trying to get as much progress as possible on this model before I would be back to my education. So onto the pics.

Forgive the links to photobucket; one of these days I'll figure out the thumbnail thing.

This two are pics of the rear end of the main hull in the process of getting skinned and the tapered bits glued on to the sides.

A whack of pics of the main engine exhaust. The completed unit took the bulk of my time off to complete.

A little tape goes a long way. Some pics showing it all together, a few close ups of the skin in spots.

Just showing off how big it will be on the glorious day when I actually finish it.

No progress as of late, too busy with school sadly, but the end of April or so I'll be back at it.

Finally an update. Glad to be back working on this thing.

Although pics are few a fair bit has been done since time I posted to this thread, mostly skinning the whole thing with 0.030” sheet styrene, in all its glory.

http://s959.photobucket.com/albums/a...t=IMG_0854.jpg

A shot with all the skin finally in place. Thats a machinist's 1-2-3 block, btw.

http://s959.photobucket.com/albums/a...t=IMG_0881.jpg
http://s959.photobucket.com/albums/a...t=IMG_0880.jpg
http://s959.photobucket.com/albums/a...t=IMG_0859.jpg

These are close ups of the skin at the front of the ship. Leaving the openings in just the right places and just the right shape was something of a challenge. The holes will have a detail bit made to fit inside them at some point.

http://s959.photobucket.com/albums/a...t=IMG_0859.jpg

Hey, where'd those other ships come from?

http://s959.photobucket.com/albums/a...t=IMG_0871.jpg

From front to back, Alba Create's Free Planets Alliance battleship Rio Grandes, my scratch-built Free Planets Alliance transport, Alba Create's Galactic Empire battleship Wilhermina and Alba Create's Galactic Empire hospital ship which is, if babelfish's terrible translator is to believed, 1 of 250 ever made. All in 1/5000 scale.

http://s959.photobucket.com/albums/a...t=IMG_0876.jpg
http://s959.photobucket.com/albums/a...t=IMG_0891.jpg

Same as above but from different angles.

Well that's all for now. I'm hoping that I'll be updating this far more often then before, and perhaps sooner than later I'll get this finished off.
