Default WWII Sub Chaser

During WWII we sent 110' long "ships" to sea to hunt down and kill subs. Armed with depth charges one 5" deck gun , a twin 40mm and one or two 20mm up high they went out and fought, often one on one against enemy subs. These were substantially smaller than destroyer escorts which were again smaller than destroyers so to me it seemed a heroic mission!
I ordered a resin kit from Iron Shipwrights of such a boat and then waited and waited. After about three months I got bored and looked at some WWII 'line drawings' I had found and figured there really wasn't that much to it? So armed with the plans and plastic I started to build one from scratch. What you see here is as far as I got before the kit finally arrived. It is all scratched except for the guns and PE that have been installed so far. It's not too far from completion but has been on the backburner for too long now.

But I thought I'd drag it out and put it up for perusal.

Comments, questions and critique are welcomed!
Thanks for stopping in.

Oh Yeah, it's 1/350th scale and about five inches long.

Throughout WWII even the same ship could have had a number of paint schemes upon it. I also liked this 'dazzle camo' scheme though and had to replicate it!

Thanks OTIST!

Have you learned your lesson about ordering from ISW ?

I could go on a wild diatribe about them, but I won't bore you or the rest of the good folks on the board about their shortcomings.

Um yeah.
Didn't matter when they said it was 'in stock' because that somehow changed later? I ordered a total of three kits from them. This one originally and then two more later on. The second kit eventually arrived and it had a parts mixup inside the box between various available versions of the kit. But I found enough to piece together one version which wasn't even the one I ordered of course so let that go. The last one, don't ask me and I won't ask you! I see them on tables at hobby shows and I'd recommend that as the way to get one if you want it. Pick it up, check it out thoroughly and then buy it if you're pleased. With the advent of so many new plastic WWII warship subjects I'm not even tempted to look at their products anymore but wil admit they used to be the way to go if you "had to" have what they did offer as subjects. Not too sure how their future looks and of course I don't begrudge them nor wish them ill but for instance- they have a turret and barrel set for Iowa class battleships. So I looked at it. Well in this day and age white metal barrels will not stand up against turned brass examples and that is what they are still offering?

Good luck to them because they did serve the diehard ship fanatics for a long time and still have unique offerings. But, the plastic companies are closing all those gaps real fast now!

Yes I thought about ordering that kit as well. I didn't realize ISW service was in the toilet however. Thanks for warning me off.

Yeah you should finish that sucker man. OF course I should my 1/350 Typhoon before I die......
