Great-looking ship, Duck-san. The clearcoat was just what the weathering needed.

I always had a soft spot in my heart for the Spruances

Don,
Looks good bud!
The weathering doesn't look overdone and i like the contrast difference between the hull and the deck.
Well done me feathered friend!

Why thank you Mr. Wombat! It started out a very stark contrast using the called for colors which don't take into account either scale effect or weathering. I like it a bit more muted as it is now but still with a visible contrast. I'm happy for about thirty minutes work with white/grey and black pastel chalks and then a Tamiya 'weathering kit' to obtain the rust and metal tones.

Well, I gave my distributor (plastic pusher) a hard time about whetting my appetitie and leaving me wanting MORE! SO, he's sending me two modern era JMSDF ships and a WWII IJN destroyer to build and assess. With a lil variety under my belt I'm afraid I'll be committed to one more scale of warships to enjoy! It's like CRACK and I'm gonna need a fix!

Photoetched? Hell no! I have a hard enough time at the larger scales! The 1/700th ships are fine for me OOB and that's the way they'll remain.

Thanks Mech! It was a fun lil kit with "enough" detail because there are actually are quite a few parts in the box- yet it went together easily and fairly quickly. I'd call it a good recreational build with satisfying results.

I guess you've never eaten in a ships mess before.

And when will the navy ever have Hobby shops on their boats I was in the Lincolns (CVN-72) ships store when she was underway for a VIP cruise back in 1990 and I didn't see a single model kit anywhere.

Default Re: REVISED 09/28 .1/700 PitRoad Destroyers!

My distributor supplied me with three additional PitRoad kits. Two of modern Japanese (JMSDF) destroyers and then a WWII "escort", similar to our destroyer escorts for ASW and that kit includes TWO DEs within it to build early and late wear versions along with a Pinace (lil boat!)

I set about building one of the JMSDF Destroyers and altered the colors slightly from the earlier American Spruance class build and then weathered it up.

Here she is alongside the USS Olendorf placed upon some Plastistruct brand blue tinted textured plastic sheet which can almost pass for "water"?

These lil kits are FUN and damned near addicting? I see a problem looming ahead?

There could be worse problems ta have??

Another fine fun build DD!
Gee theres a bit of difference in size between the two boat's and if anything the Japanese boat would be a harder one ta spot with the mast a deck being the same colour?
Like that lil staining on the side's dude, just gives it something!
Do these boats have hull bottoms or are they just waterline builds?
So what's next in the 1/700 club?

Wombat,
Yeah, although of the same era and I believe that the JMSDF used some of our ships outright, or at least armament- I was a lil surprised at the size difference with them both being 'destroyers'? That's what I do like about modeling in a specific scale though- the side by side comparisons for relative size of the real article!
Well, although I've got another JMSDF destroyer, it's the same class of ship with only subtle differences so I'd like to build the WWII era escorts soon. Now these seem freakin' small in comparison! But they're of that funky cool design ethos that the IJN used back then so they'll be interesting.

Mech, oh Master Monkey,

Yup, addicting for the fact that they have enough detail for interest and then you can even "play" with them when done in that small size! Arrange your own Task Group on a desktop for instance. I can easily build one in a couple or few evenings of modeling so you aren't investing weeks just to add another subject to the collection. Yup, I'm afraid that with affordability makes an addicting combination!

Thanks for the kind words gents!
