'ole Two Step Stumble time!

Won't be showing pics, but I messed up on the touch-ups. Next step, sanding it all back to smooth, not bare resin, and starting over.

model on...

Alright, new coats started. Ended up putting a light coat down first and masked that, so the main hull color will be just slightly darker. Also added some duck egg blue in spots. Tomorrow I'll finish masking and then hit the paint room again.

Like deja'vu...

Alright, she has a little more of a standard color scheme now rather than the reversed look. And I may try and lighten of the dark gray with some lighter gray overcoats.
Had a little scare when I was pulling up the masking, as a section of paint started to pull up on the underside of the saucer. (Again.) Managed to bed it back down - but damn...
Some slight touch up to do before then (which is what was said before) but hopefully I'm close to done on main paint.

Model on!

Now we’re cooking.

Strange you’re getting paint lift. I’ve built and painted a few of these Ugh models (on my fourth with Hood) without any problems. Strong tape! I’m really digging the two-tone variations on the nacelles and elsewhere.

Don't mention paint peel to me! (More later...)

As of now, her main colors are done. As mentioned, I lightened the overall gray tone across the entire hull and nacelles. But then the saucer stripe was fading too much so I had to redo that, and really glad am I that I kept the outside masks from the previous painting. That came in real handy! The stripe was then redone with an even lighter gray, almost white, as well as a band around the nacelle fronts.

I had thought about, but forgot to do, masking the sides before lightening the colors, in order to easily get some dark gray swept stripes going up the sides, but I forgot that - of course... Something to do later.

For now,

And here's the money shot!

More. Paint. Peel...

I tell yeah, that broke my heart. The good feelings were really clicking there for a moment.

I've toyed with the idea of just cutting some styrene and dummying some hull details to cover them, but... Despite how effing tired I am of sanding and painting, sanding and painting, I will do so once again - after I take a few days away from it.

I go back to work tomorrow, so the timing is right.

Model on!

That's the unfortunate phrase, 'each time...'

But, this time I think things are settling into place. I got the paint peel debacle cleaned up and repainted. Had a scare though when I was taking off the masking tape. It looked like a peel of duck egg blue was coming up - but that was just a lower layer of mask coming up! PHEW!

I still need to do the arc of panels along the inside edge of the saucer, but that'll be done tomorrow. Almost today... Also have to do yellow for the RCS quads and start on the dish.

While that was drying, I turned to the nacelles, masking them for the copper and silver and then clear blue.

There's a little clean up needed around the blue (and a partial fingerprint to take care of...)

And the copper around the front of the nacelles.

Next with those I'll do the end caps and the spires that'll be under the domes, and do the vanes in a dark gray.

Model on!

I think I used zinc chromate yellow on the RCS thrusters.

Thanks for the tip! I shall use the designer's suggestion.

Default Re: USS Saber - 1/1000 Sentinel Class

Did four steps forward and two back today. Yay!

For the steps forward...

I masked the sides and ghosted on the gray stripes. Also did the underside of the saucer again, this time to lay down some Tamiya dark sea gray.

And for the steps back!

On the underside of the saucer, you'll note a small spot of blue near the dome. Yup, more paint peel... And that area was previously sanded back to bare resin!
Oh hell, I foresee some styrene cut and glued down and then painted the hull color to cover that...
And...

It peeled almost the entire way around the nacelle. This is after sanding to level it all out. It's like looking at growth rings!

Anyway, after I picked my heart of off the floor and jammed some curses back into my brain, that was sanded and the airbrush brought out again. If I look closely I can see that I should have sanded it more, but I am not going to look too closely.

For the moment, here she is in the altogether.

The color of the port nacelle is now slightly darker than the starboard, but I kind of like it that way. I imagine her needing a replacement nacelle at some point in her career.

Still going forth! Model on!
