This is quite the job. Very futuristic design.

Well thank you very much!

A little more. I did the railings for the boat bay.

Soon. I'm currently progressing on my Star Trek USS Dauntless build.
I have to build where the mojo goes.

Been a bit! While my compressor was down, I dusted off the Sybil and did a little more work. Mainly some of the remaining PE.

I still need to do the PE around the bridge, altering the pieces that wrap around the superstructure, as now the wings change the angles. But I think I'll paint the decks first, just to get those done and masked. Then the remaining PE, then paint and railings and other fiddles!

Default Re: USS Sybil Ludington

Well, after just about a month short of a year, the Sybil Ludington is back in the slip!

After my small troubles with the Cat's Eye, I decided to head back to the To Be Finished shelf and pull the Sybil back from neglect and dust. Construction is already almost complete. More than 98% at least. All that's left are the PE, which include the walks around the bridge and then the railings.

The walkways going under the bridge windows were set to follow the sides, and so they had to be cut and bent outward in order to accommodate the new bridge wings. As luck would have it, I just needed to snip off a tiny bit from either end and they fit perfect. You can also see the PE doors put in place on the wings as well as the one to starboard that had to be relocated in order for the ladder to go in its place.

The main railings will be left until just before the hull gray goes on, but as for now, the bridge 'railings' are on as well as the ladders.

And the first color down, that being on the flight deck and main decks.

I will be staying with this until completion.

Carry on!

Yup, starting to move along now.

I masked the decks and top. The railings are going to be pushed out to the edges of the decks, rather than the narrow pathways the Independence first set out with.

Then I made a little template piece to try and mimic the rectangular fading seen on most of these ships.

Then I took some simple white and wnet all around the hull.

And doing a little reading, I've read that the final twenty LCS ships are going to be outfitted as full frigates, with a majority of those already built being brought close to this standard throughout their operation life. Which fits with me uparming this one and adding a vertical missile launch system.

When I paint the gray I'm going to have to be careful to let at least some of that color variation show through.

Until next time, carry on!

It may be late, but here is a closeup of the frame structure the sailors use to clean/replace the bridge windows. Not so much a catwalk but just a frame to stand on and clip their harnesses onto. As you can see...they don't stick out very far. Your use of the cut down railing section to recreate this is pretty darn brilliant.
