Default F/A-18F Super Hornet

Hum, I thought I had made a finished thread for this..?

Oh well, here she is! This is Academy's 1/72 Super Hornet, done up with the kit decals for the Jolly Rogers.
This build was done for a coworker's uncle for Christmas as he, like myself, really likes the Super Bug as the best looking of Naval jets. Second only to the venerable Tomcat of course.

Thinking back on it, an in-flight display would have been quicker and easier, but I wanted to do something a little more dynamic. After seeing some pics on-line with all the slats, flaps and elevators dropped and drooped, I decided that was the route to go.

So, after a lot of cutting, gluing, shaving and shafting, this is what we end up with!

It was actually pretty easy for the most part. The only problems I ran into were self-inflicted, esp with the paint. I've never had to bring a model back into the paint booth so many times as this!

But, happily she was completed on time and well received, so for that I am happy! Definitely will want to do another for myself, but not just yet...

I like this one Thom. It's not weathered to all hell and back, although in saying that, a pin wash would help bring out some details so it's not just a solid block of colour.

Thanks Mad! The light is washing out the color some. In person there is some modulation, though you are right a pin wash would have helped it.
