Default Studio Scale Death Star Turbolaser Tower

Its been a while since I posted anything here of consequence. Not saying I haven't been busy with projects, but I haven't finished many models. Started. Never finished. I hope to change that with this project.

The kit is from Wasili Angelopoulos and the greeblies are from Mike Salzo. I 3D printed the elevation mechanism and decided to put a shield in, since the SS model has a slot or hole open that you can see inside and I wanted to cover that up. Otherwise the kit is built as close to the filming prop as possible. Some greeblies haven't been identified or documented yet, so I am replacing those with reasonable imitations. This will be a static display and will not have an motors or lights.

I pre-shaded the panel lines with a dark grey and followed up with several coats of Tamiya XF-80 Royal Light Grey. The barrels I painted with Vallejo Neutral Grey. Initially that went on light, but darkened up nicely after drying. Some touch ups are required. I will forgo the wash, for some dry brushing to bring out the panel lines a bit more and I'm going to do the weathering with pastels.

Nice work on that gun. And I can commiserate about starting so many and not following through. Also hoping to bash that mold!

I much prefer your work to the 3D printed one.
That is freaking awesome scratch work mate. Really love it

The only part that was scratchbuilt was the base. But I'm glad you like it Madhatter.

Hi KWSTAS,

It's still a work in progress. Its weathered, but that darkened up the hull a bit, and the guns started looking too light.

Here is an update. The model was weathered as close as possible to the Studio Model. Upon finishing the weathering, the cannon colour turned out to be too light, so I painted it with Tamiya Dark Gray as you see in the fifth photo. I added some oak trim painted that semi gloss black.
The fourth photo was a bit of an experiment in lighting to prove that much of the weathering can disappear in different lighting conditions, which is probably why the weathering on the Studio Models seems quite heavy.
