Default 1/144 Millennium Falcon

Taking a break from all the sanding on my Lancaster, I decided to just punch out a quick build, as just something to put in the anemic DUN column.

Again, trying for a quick build, just paint and glue, and maybe a little PE too. Bandai has some nice details under the grills on the top deck, so it is a shame to cover them under solid plastic grills.

Obligatory box art to start with.

And the PE and masks.

Here are the sprues masked just before painting the side walls and pit details with light gray.

And of course the hull halves.

I started with the damage, using a dremel to dig holes in and scour the surrounding surfaces.

This one, I thinned the plastic before making the slice through. But I thinned it too much and it's currently too flimsy to rough up the edges. I backed it with superglue to help shore it and will refine it later.

There are some dings and dents to add, but after that it should just be paint and glue, and I hope to have it onto the Dun Shelf quickly.

yeah sweet! I bought this kit not long ago as well so I could take molds of some of the finer details for greeblies later down the track on other ships
You going to light this up? It's a good opportunity for you to have a crack at it.

No, I'm going for a short and quick build, and I would certainly get bogged down in lighting. Especially as I've never done it before. I'll leave lighting to the experts!

A little update today.

I finished doing most of the damage, though I'll still be adding little dings here and there as I go.

I tried to save the three pipes in this area, as they should be bent up, but they broke off and were replaced by thin round stock.

Also closed up the belly, from the battery pack cover to the gear doors.

Then I went to the cockpit.

I'm not too happy with the turret bays. I wish they had been molded in two parts to make painting easier. I'll have to refine them.

I'm working on the crew now, Rey and Chewie in the front, Finn in the back and Han standing by the hatch. Kinda looking over the 'new blood' from the great beyond.

More later.

Okay, the turret 'pit is done. I just need to dab some dark paint to where the seat meets the floor.

Then back to the cockpit, where Finn and Chewie await patiently. The white 'booster seat' is for Rey, otherwise she sits too low and looks like a child.

And the gangs all here! Rey and Chewie and Finn, and Han looking over them all.

Next, I'll get the canopy in place and masked, then get back to painting the hull.

A short update. Will be getting more done during my mid-week weekend, but for now I've pressed the mandibles into place for when I preshade and then do the white. I also glued in the turret 'pits and the canopy.

I've started doing the masks, which go real quick with the mask set. It would have been a real pain otherwise! More done on Monday!

No, that's from a rattle can. For some reason the paint retreated from the edges and in a way that I really like!

And thanks Griff! She's on hold at the paint stage at the moment, as I am a bit in a BSG kick, but I'll get back to her!

I think that we all go thru a swing back & forth on subject obsessions.

That we do! I expect my WWII 1/48 urge to kick in once again. Then I can get the Do 335 done, the 1/48 S6B and the 1/72 Matchbox Lancaster... Ugh!
