Default 1/144 Archer-class Superscout Tauriel

First new thread in quite awhile for me. Lots of projects going in all directions.

This is an old Delta Quadrant 1/144 Archer-class scout kit that I had hoped to just put together. That never seems to happen with me. Anyway, I decided on some minor modifications. Lengthened the aft hull, impulse and the nacelles (by an inch) as well as redesigning new pylons with a very automotive-inspired crease that runs to the nose of the upper hull. I also pushed the lower sensor pod back a bit and redesigned a new oval dish. Here's a bunch of pictures from the last month of work on her. 35mm slide film was also set behind the opened window ports and the usual lighting.

Styrene hull extension:

Lower sensor pod moved aft by 1/2" and added side intakes and new phaser turrets:

Nacelles extended by 1" with the aid of an extra set of first generation cast Archer nacelles:

Brass cross bracing and stand collar:

Large rectangular window port frames:

Decal art placement test in paper:

35mm Slide transparencies. Interior 3D scenes rendered by artist Donny Versiga. One window features the ship's namesake "Tauriel" in the captain's cabin. The XO cabin port shows visiting VIP, Captain Nora Janson of the Endurance:

The avionic guts:

The aft hull may receive some further mods such as small fins and dual photon nozzles:

New sensor dish was modeled in SketchUp as a concept and test printed for fitting:

Builder plaque will be laser-etched on acrylic with a stainless brushed metal finish:

Early quick concept illustrations before construction began:

Oh man I REALLY dig the raked mods you've done with the nacelles! That really gives it an aggressive stance which is something I feel lacks from a lot of the ships in ST
Great use of film too. Where did the images come from?
As always you've delivered another stunning ship

Every time you show up with one of these things i wonder how you can outdo the previous one, and every single time you do... image "IMG 8054" did it this time.

Thank you MH! I really wanted to try some body modifications using small diameter plastic tubing to create a raised crease from the leading edge of the pylon. Either side of the tube is blended with ApoxieSculpt. Super easy.

The rendered images come from famed 3D artist Donny Versiga, who has done amazing interior (and exterior) models of both the TOS and Refit Enterprises. I asked him for a couple of custom views from a higher vantage point to place behind the overhead windows as well as a few eye-level shots for the side ports. These were scaled down to the approximate size in Photoshop. I added some crew images in two and had these digitally imaged on 35mm slide film.

Much appreciated T! You know how I like to overdo things. Always something new to try!

Thanks for following the project RW! Things have slowed on Tauriel as new commission work has started which I'll post here on a new thread - a 1/537 Belknap. I'll also start a new one for the 1/350 Reliant I built last year for Chronicle Collectibles now that they've sneak-peeked it.

Tauriel returned to the bench for final paint and decals. Still awaiting a polished bronze deflector dish.
