Honestly, I like some of where it was going but there are a couple major issues with it:

1) Balance. The thing is saucer heavy. Majorly saucer heavy. The nacelles need to be set further back and the struts need to be further forward.

2) The struts, they're ugly. The tapered struts on the Refit only work because it flows with the balance of the ship. These are anti-refit struts. They are wider at the base than at the nacelle connection point and it looks FUCKING UGLY.

3) The neck. What. The. Fuck. The neck seems to stretch all the way to the shuttle bay. It looks awkward. On top of that they added an inverse radius to it to "mirror" the radius on the forward section of the neck. Its also set too far back and thus throws the balance all out of wack. I have to say, the designer of this enterprise is a n00b.

4) The aztecing. Looks GREAT on the saucer, but it doesn't continue on into the secondary hull. Why not? it looks like they got started on it, and then, oops, we're over budget, we'll go with the CGI even tho its incomplete.

5) Where the fuck did the shuttle bay go?

I'm not afraid to call an Edsel an Edsel.

The only thing THIS Edsel lacks is a 'Toilet-Seat' grille.

You know I think most of us have been 'open-minded' about most of the changes and newness that's been brought to Trek over the past 4 decades...

But THIS is the first time someone is attempting to RE-DO the original and I think that's what gives some of us some mental heart-burn. It's a little jarring to me personally.

And I'm one of the guys that's been all for the 're-mastered' and fixed up TOS episodes... And I really liked Enterprise the series and I consider that show part of the whole.

But my open-minded card has just been punched too many times. There's no new space on it for the hole punch to punch.

This is the only picture out there and the ship's front is turned towards the 'camera' so the proportions are gonna be off a bit. Need to see a few more photos now that the cat's out of the bag.

There is supposed to be a scene inside the shuttle bay, which is supposed to be huge and has several shuttles to include an ambulance type.

Edit - For some reason, I have been really off with this thread, offering comments on posts a few pages back. Sorry.

You know, IIRC, Paramount got more hate mail, when they blew up the E in STIII, than they did when they killed off Spock in STII. I think the powers-that-be, in movie land, under estimate the importance of the Enterprise as a main character in the Star Trek franchise. The re-imagined E would be more accepted if it were a midway design point between the TOS E and the refit.

Look how fast an article appeared, about how so many hate it.
They are watching this very closely, I can't help but wonder if there will be a sudden change(at least I hope).

Imagine the crap the guy that did the redesign is getting. I know if I had to work with him I sure would, but then I have no fear of telling people what I think.

Hate mail? Hell, I sent a letter to Starlog magazine done up as a wanted poster on Harve Bennett, demanding that for destroying the Enterprise, he should be strapped into a chair and forced to watch endless loops of really bad 'Six Million Dollar Man' episodes.

Jay, I gave it a full artists critique(post #82).

I think the guy treated it as a job, nothing more. The ST universe has rules and that design doesn't quite follow them. Sternbach would spot it's flaws right away, how many ships did he design for ST.

These guys stepped into a hornets nest, I don't think they expected the design to meet this much criticism. Nor do Abrams and crew appear to have any experience with the ST fans, and they haven't seen anything yet.
Wait till the film comes out, if this is what they did to the E, God only knows what they did to the characters.

And you know...I don't think it's so hard to capture Trek's spirit. There's a reason that they DID have Harve Bennett sit down and watch the original 79 before he decided to do a continuation of 'Space Seed'.

In a nutshell, here's what I like about that 'dated' 60's Enterprise. It looks like a naval vessel in space. Haze Gray and Underway. It looks like it means business. This new ship looks like a fucking 'Bling-Mobile'. That's what's out of place. And as others have pointed out... it looks cobbled together and incomplete. Visual gibberish.

I'm not ready to accept this as the New Paradigm. Definitely Give Up The Ship and Damn the Torpedo(bay)... I'll still see the film. At least once.

I don't know how I missed this thread Ok here are my thoughts.

I hate this design. I thought John Eaves was working on this movie and now we hear that Ryan Church? designed this ship? WTF?

I had no problem with this movie until now! I thought the reboot of BSG was a great idea and I think the sucess of the show showed that it was. I was open to this reboot of trek. I figured Abrams couldn't do worse than B&B did. My only hope was that they didn't tinker with the Enterprise too much. I held out hope that John Eaves would create a great design. It's odd that is my only beef. Not only did TPTB change it, but they choose a butt ugly design. I really hate it. I understand the producers felt they had to update the design. I think it's too radical a departure. I will go see the movie, My hopes for it are lower now some how. Now I know how the Galactica purists felt.
