Default First models

These are the first models, shown in sequence, made by my son when he was 7. He's keen on aeroplanes, though mainly from an engineering perspective rather than a flying one, and fascinated by WWII (he watches loads of documentaries, and includes the dambusters and Battle of britain amongst his favourite films).

I helped him with the Spitfire by cutting the parts off the sprue and drawing the outline of the camoflage in pencil onto the assembled model for him to paint. I also helped him with the fragile transfers and painted the canopy for him, but he did the assembly and main painting. He already understands the importance of thin coats of paint, rather than heaping it on, and of getting the camoflage patterns correct rather than doing random patterns.

The Lancaster was entirely his own effort, as was the 109, but he lost patience with the 109 and didn't paint it to such a high standard. The card baatleship was of HMS Belfast, done only from memeory of a visit a couple of years before. He also made a model of a US CVN out of sheets of A4 paper, and I still don't understand how he got the shape of the hull, including its lateral extensions to support the deck, or how he got it to stand up without internal supports. Unfortunately, it has been crushed under his bed.

For a seven year old (now eight), I think he shows a talent.
