Default Battlestar COLUMBIA

Well, my friends, it's done. At least, it's done as far as I can put into it right now. I would call this a cross-over between the original series battlestar and the new series version. This could be what the original COLUMBIA was before her conversion to what we saw in "Razor" Kind of a modified NOVA class battlestar.

She's 3-feet long and scratch built. The decals are custom by JBOT and the paint scheme is something that I just messed with and made it work. Note the main guns , 40 in all, not to mention the 150 or so smaller AA guns. She's without lights, which suits me fine. I'm especially proud of the modified main arms and the lower pod drop bays, which I got the idea from Elkybaby (thanks, BTW!). The side bays idea I got from the new series PEGASUS, which is hard to believe the base form and shape came from a discarded photo copier canister! I also posted some pics of the bottom side, which is even more detailed than the top.....about wore me out!

The plans to build her I got from 137Gebrig when he posted them here on RI. I also want to thank Kurt Kuhn for posting the original Big G pics on here and his webpage. I couldn't have built her without them! Also a big shout-out to Last Battlestar and his "10-year in the making" battlestar build., a true inspiration and incredible build AND his pics showed some areas the original pics didn't so, they were an equally invaluable help!

And I also want to thank all those who commented on my build while it was in the progress section. Now.....how about a 4-foot Mercury class PEGASUS, anyone? LOL!!! (just kidding!)

Enjoy the pics and if you have any questions, let me know.

Thumbs up Re: Battlestar COLUMBIA

Let me be the first to say WOW!!!! Incredible work! Thank you for the great photos for inspiration. I like the fusion between the new and old. The battlestars alway needed more guns. Excellent work!

That looks so incredibly incredible! And its supported by the presence of a model of the original series Battlestar in Galactica's museum in the series finale. Perhaps she was the original Columbia which fought valiantly through the war until lost. Then the second Columbia was built to replace her and honor her name, but was lost in Raptor Talon.

The whole time I watched this build I thought the model was studio scale that goes to show how good it is, congrats on a one of a kind build.

Yeeha! She's done and dusted now and what a result. Definitely worthy of the Battlestar name and you've definitely earned the right to be in the Battlestar builders circle, Cliff.

That pic with you standing behind the model reminds me of the famous Jim Creveling version standing behind his first build. I think we should all take a similar pic when we've completed ours, but you might be waiting a while between photo sessions...

But she's a beauty and I'm glad to have been some help with my pics. It really does look bigger than it is and the side profile looks very much like the classic Battlestar lines. The clever additions really stamp the build as your own. Making something different than everyone else is very satisfying.

Thanks for posting the finished result, and the tons of pics along the way are appreciated. Congrats, these big ships are a hell of a journey to build and it's great to see another leave the Colonial Shipyards to fight those frackin' Cylons.

Mike

One question...doesn't the more open bay design make the bays more vulnerable to enemy fire?

With all of her Main Gun battery mounts and her AA emplacements, no. She's armed to the teeth and the open bay config allows for quicker (and alternate) launching and recovery of her viper, raptor and talon squadrons. Also, the flight pods are capable of detaching and operating as their own mobile base, a feature that was never seen in the movie or series. (hey, it's my world, right? he he!)
