I've had to go out of town all day Saturday so I wasn't able to get any new info for you. Hopefully I can take care of that on Sunday.

Just a brief update.

I've built some detail on the inside section of the third stage. It's pretty impossible to superglue bare naked wire, so I had to settle for the insulated caliber, (which makes it rather oversized), but I just have to accept that

I've also had to elaborate from the truth of the details in that I 'squished' their location so they only reach mid point, (this is so the adjoining section can slot into place). I took some pics to see how it all looks on camera.

Hmm
It looks very messy and the first thing that hits my attention is that the Miliput bolt things need much more attention and trimming cuz they look oversized, totally without definition and quite splayed to say the least.

Second thing that hits me is the pipe, looks very foily and so I need to try something else for it.

The overall impression, the mass of colors and tones is too busy like this so a repaint is in order to make everything more uniform. Okay, back to it

Thank you kindly Refit

Here's an update on take two .

.

It does still look a little patchy and messy in macro, but the wanna be helicopter/aerial shot in this bottom pic is closest to naked eye representation and I am feeling so much happier with this rework .

I've dropped the metallics and think these colors are closer to the look of this section. As a supposition, I'm guessing most of the weathering stems from the era when one of the rockets was left on display outside with the elements doing its thing with this section.

I've still got the pipe section to remake and some other small bits but couldn't resists sharing these pics.

More soon

Cool....

I have been looking at getting one of these for several years but, due to the price....I REALLY wanted to see what the kit looked like before I bought it.

Definatly interesting....

Quote:
That's mainly why I put it off. For the price and potential, it's a pretty lousy/sophomoric kit that left me feeling jooped and ripped off at purchasing.
Would have been my thoughts/feelings exactly

Looking great so far, and I will be watching this build closely.

So I was reading along and looked up images of the third stage... WOW! You did a great job on matching the real thing.

I'm always impressed when people can match real life objects like that.

Very nice work, Rider.

I have just purchased the 40th anniversary version of this kit, and I took out the instructions to read while I was on holiday... I'm a a complete idiot - I can't find them now!!!

Does anyone have a scanned copy (or the ability to scan theirs)? Please PM me if you can help. Thanks very much

Regards
Richard

Hey guys, thank you so very much for the comments, and sincerest apologies at my lack of updates. I'm happy to read of more members tackling this kit and happy the instructions got sorted out for you T70MkIII.

This build is still continuing, (not been abandoned), just being slow about it. But here's a little teaser which is, as they sometimes say, tip of iceberg on progress.

I've messed around a little bit on the third stage engines. Still tinkering on those. I added some brass rod braces to their alcoves.

Beneath them, two pics from the second stage. I added some greeblies to the bottom section. It's going to need a heat shield before adding the engine bells. I got lucky and found some red and blue wire (not pictured here). At 0.5mm its a tad too girthy for the scale but, it'll do, so that is still in the process of being built up.

The top section of the second stage. I had to sand down the embossing that Revell had there, and I built up the center detail and added a few bits here and there.

Not much to show for now I know, but more coming soon.

Thanks guys.
Sorry to say, other than some construction there's not been much progress since the last post. Projects still live and the parts stare me in the face each evening but I've been a little lazy and distracted lately.

This post may bring back the impetus to get on with it
