Grayson has actually been Batman for a short time during the Knightquest story arc, he took over after Azreal went over the edge while being Batman.

Cool Re: The end of Batman

I do like the twist that his father is alive and becomes some sort of villain though.

So it's like The National Enquirer without the alien abductions, Elvis or Fat Oprah sightings, then.

Does the Batman Beyond TV cartoon series thingy play any role in all of this? If it does, Bruce Wayne was alive sometime in the future.

Not really - at this time. Though, it would be interesting to bring back an old and grizzled Bruce Wayne in an attempt to mentor and shape a young version of himself. It could turn out to be a nice graphic novel series, though the young Batman needs an arch-nemesis like Joker to help flesh out the character. It can't be all about teen angst rebelling against Bruce Wayne...

They have tried to replace BW before. Rememebr the Azrael debacle? It is a publicity stunt to get people to buy the comic books to see 'What happens next?" That is what they did with the Death of Superman. They had the Reign of the Supermen series go on for awhile until the real Superman reemerged.

With all of the twists in the time continuum, I am sure Bruce Wayne is not really "Dead".

The only successful Superhero death that I believe that has been successful and the characters mantle passed on successfuly has been The Flash. Barry Allen died during Crisis on Infinite Earths and Wally West took over the mantle of the Flash after being KidFlash for years.

Um...IIRC, Barry's alive, too. Only one that's stayed dead is Bucky.

I think that Bucky came back as the Winter Soldier, who then went on to take over as Captain America when Steve Rogers (still dead) was killed.
