Apologies for not keeping up to date with your build! Looking very wonderful!! Mr Gap Filler is a keeper. Is that still available?

I don't know about Mr Gap Filler, but Mr Dissolved Putty has always been a great resource for me! As to paint, I'm still moving along. I was this close to starting main paint before I realized I did not want to use the decals for the wing leading edges. But I don't have any Trainer Yellow, just Flat Yellow in Tamiya colors.
I almost bought some Xtracylic or Humbrol Trainer Yellow, but couldn't condone the $10 for the paint and shipping of a 10mml bottle! So out came the near empty bottle of Flat Yellow with some thinner added and the Clear Orange I've had almost no use for. The mix came out good and it actually matches the shade of the plastic opener sold for Tamiya bottles. ![]() The camera flash lightens the color some, but that orange tinge is in there. ![]() ![]() And of course after that, I found some rough spots in the plastic that meant I needed to re-sand and repaint... Oh well, no time crunch here!

Well, let me get back on my Dinah! Almost a month since the last update, so I've been lagging. And building the Kirishima. And lagging...
But, main paint is done now on the Ki-Bird. It just needs some touch up from overspray and some scratching. I need to paint the exhausts and the prop and get the gear finished. I think she's not too far from decals and weathering! ![]() ![]() ![]()

Just have to get some sticky-doo off of them, which I'm enthused about. The way the masks kept popping up I thought I would have some under spray in there. Now if I can only fix the color demarcation lines without making them any worse...

S'okay, so the engines are on!
![]() And the decals too! Although not without a little... fuss... The kits hinomarus went onto the wing upper surfaces okay. With a few baths of microset, they settled in nice. I left the fuselage till last to help in handling the model and skipped to the tail. Where my first choice of decal broke. The 88 came off, and though it is usually simple enough to position it and go on, it is harder when it is stuck to your thumb pad instead... ![]() It did not come from there in one piece. So it was onto the second option, the red flower amid the white slashes. All was going fine there until I put my finger on one. Right on it. And broke it. And of course, the part that broke off, decided that where it came to rest was the perfect place to never move from again... I stopped trying when I started chipping paint. ![]() Off came that option, and since I now needed to repaint the tail, I decided to do the bottom of the wings. But along the way, I decided to futz with the hinomaru on the starboard wing... ![]() Suffice to say, I then needed to pull out a Zero kit and use one of its hinomaru to replace that one. And of course, the ones from that kit are slightly smaller. So two of those went on the bottom of the wings, while the one remaining from the OG kit replaced the one on the top. And they are thicker, requiring a little more persuasion in order to seat into the panel lines. ![]() After that I painted the tail again and waited for it to dry before applying the third decal option. And went down great! ![]() Wheels and props are just about finished to, although I need to fix one bit of pulled paint... Hopefully, when I get home I can cover them with a clear coat and get ready for weathering on my day off tomorrow! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

A little scratching done. First with the sponge/dab method, but then with a prismacolor silver pencil and a normal no2 pencil for more precise work.

Looking great! Any engine exhaust streaks planned for the cowls and wings?

Yes. I plan on doing some weathering in a day or so, including exhaust staining and engine leaks.

And DUN!
After a little bit more weathering staining and dust for the exhausts, and a few more scratches here and there, I am calling her finished. ![]() ![]() For the first time up on her gear. ![]() ![]() And adding the external tank. ![]() ![]() I'll post the complete pics in the finished section http://resinilluminati.com/showthrea...809#post291809
